Re-Usable Water Bottles: How To Make A Healthy Choice For You, Your Family And The Environment

It is a well-known fact that drinking lots of water is an integral part of a healthy lifestyle. In recent years many questions arose about the quality of tap water and many people turned to bottled water. Bottled water, while being a safer choice for drinking water, greatly increases the amount of single use plastic that ends up in landfills or in the ocean.

Best practice is to buy water in large reusable containers and use re-usable water bottles to refill and drink from.

With so many products on the market, how do you choose the right water bottle for you and your family?

There are 3 main categories of water bottles on the market:

  1. PlasticDW-7014

BPA-free plastic water bottles pose a couple of great features as they are:

  • Inexpensive
  • Light weight
  • Shatter-resistant
  • Usually dishwasher safe.

All the features make it the perfect water bottle for those who are always on the go and lead active lifestyles. However, if not taken care of properly, re-usable plastic bottles can become a breeding ground for bacteria.

2. Glass

Glass remains triumphant in the bottles’ category. Glass bottles make for the best re-usable water bottles because of the following:

  • Easily sterilised
  • Offers “purity of taste”
  • Durable
  • Recyclable
  • It doesn’t leach chemicals as some plastic bottles do

While glass water bottles may be the best, they do tend to be heavy and breakable making them the least practical for children, and fitness enthusiasts.

3. Metal

Bottles made from stainless steel come in a wide variety of sizes and bottles and are a great option if glass bottles pose a safety issue.

  • Easily sterilised
  • Durable
  • Double walled versions keep water cooler for longer
  • Heavier than plastic but lighter than glass

It is important to note that some people don’t like the feel of metal to their lips and say that it gives water a metallic taste.
